Sometimes to start, you just need to lace up your sneakers.

When starting a workout routine, it’s important to build a strong foundation. We will cover most of this during our private sessions, however,  here are some basic things to keep in mind & remember when you’re at home:

1. Set Clear Goals

• Define what you want to achieve (e.g., weight loss, muscle gain, improved endurance). This will help guide your routine and keep you motivated.

2. Start Slow

• Begin with light weights or bodyweight exercises, focusing on proper form and technique. Gradually increase intensity over time to avoid injury.

3. Balance Cardio and Strength Training

• Combine cardiovascular exercises (running, cycling, etc.) with strength training (weightlifting, resistance bands) to build endurance and muscle.

4. Learn Proper Form

• Poor form can lead to injury. If you’re unsure, seek guidance from a trainer or watch instructional videos to ensure you’re doing exercises correctly.

5. Rest and Recovery

• Rest days are crucial for muscle recovery and growth. Aim for 1-2 rest days per week and ensure you’re getting enough sleep.

6. Nutrition

• Eating a balanced diet with enough protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates is key for fueling your workouts and aiding recovery. Hydration is also critical.

7. Consistency is Key

• Progress takes time, so stick to your routine and be patient. Aim for consistency over intensity at first.

8. Listen to Your Body

• Avoid pushing yourself to the point of pain. Soreness is normal, but sharp pain may signal an injury. Take care to avoid overtraining.

9. Track Your Progress

• Keep a log of your workouts, weights, and reps. This helps you track improvements over time and stay motivated. Most of us have a smartwatch that can track our progress. This is a tool to use daily.

10. Enjoy the Process

• Find exercises you enjoy to stay motivated. Make it fun, whether through music, workout partners, or trying new fitness classes. If it’s not fun, you won’t continue.
